Principal Engineer
William Russell (Bill) joined Integrated Technologies, Inc. (ITI) in 2006; however, he has also worked with most of ITI’s senior staff for close to 30 years. His areas of responsibility include oversight of ITI’s engineering activities and project deliverables. His other areas of responsibility include key client support, project management, as well as conceptual and detailed engineering support on select projects.
Bill’s expertise includes metal finishing equipment design, wastewater treatment design, high purity water system design, ventilation and air pollution control systems, lean manufacturing, automation, process improvement, equipment design improvement, facility layout, make/buy decisions, P2 assessment, and integration of process and wastewater parameters for waste minimization.
Bill has over 30 years of surface finishing and related industry experience, including significant work in the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of surface finishing lines for end-users in aerospace, electronics, semi-conductor, automotive, hardware, machinery, medical products, and chemical process. His surface finishing design experience includes tank design, pumps and process piping, rectifiers and bussing, agitation systems, hoods and ductwork, automated hoist systems and structural support, heat exchange, electrical motors and control centers, wiring, instrumentation and controls, including PLC, PC, and SCADA applications.
His experience also includes providing OEM equipment for chemical companies such as Enthone, Heatbath, OMI, Udylite, MacDermid, Hubbard Hall, and others. His wastewater treatment experience includes feasibility studies, bench testing, full scale design of metal precipitation systems, including pretreatment: chrome reduction, cyanide destruction, chelated metal separation, chemical metering, lift stations, and sludge dewatering. He has worked with numerous technologies for waste treatment and minimization, such as evaporation, reverse osmosis, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, carbonate removal, membrane diffusion, and membrane dialysis. Bill has also designed environmental, health, and safety systems for containment and operator protection. His water systems design experience includes particle and carbon filtration, reverse osmosis, EDI, ion exchange, UV sterilization and organic reduction, ozonation, and high purity distribution systems.
Prior to joining ITI, Bill had five years of operating experience as the plant engineer for a photoengraved cylinder manufacturer and over 25 years of experience as Project Engineer, Project Manager, Manufacturing Operations Manager, and Director of Sales and Marketing for Burt Process Equipment, a manufacturer of plating and water treatment equipment. Additionally, he has experience in high purity water and wastewater systems for the life science markets, including pharmaceutical and bioresearch laboratories.
Bill has taught courses and provided technical presentations for numerous engineering firms, including Jacobs, CRB, CUH2A, CH2MHill, IDC, CDM, Lockwood Greene, Washington Group, IPS, CDI, BR+A, Van Zelm, Cosentini Associates, Tighe & Bond, Malcolm Pirnie, Metcalf & Eddy, Chemtex, Kling Linquist, URS, and many others. He has also lectured at workshops hosted by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. He is an active member of the National Association for Surface Finishing (NASF). He received his BS in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
